Tech Talk: Gyotaku Demo – Little Pond Nature Prints (hosted by AFS)

Though fish has been a major element of Japanese culture, it was not until the late 18th century that the accidental discovery of a fish impression was made by Lord Sakai.

This art form can enhance the hands-on experiences at outreach programs, reinforce classroom learning and lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. The artist, Bruce Koike (Newport, Oregon) will demonstrate the fish printing process and be available to respond to any questions.

Bruce earned a Master’s Degree from Oregon State University and has worked at turkey hatcheries and public aquariums, founded the NSF funded Aquarium Science Program at a community college, and currently commercial fishes from his 18′ boat.

The process will be continuously demonstrated during the allocated time. Examples of original art can be viewed at the Little Pond Nature Prints exhibit (#414), or on the web at:
